Sakshi Trust "RTI"

Puthet Kurien attended a RTI training conducted by Sakshi Trust in his office in Bangalore last year. Since then he had been thinking about RTI but chose not to use it. That is until one day he decided to sort an issue he had been running around for a long time… his electiricity bill.

The original owner of the site had passed away and Mr. Kurien was unable to get the papers to effect a transfer of the bill to his name, despite owning the property for several years.

Finally frustrated, Mr. Kurien used RTI with some amazing results. Read his email below.

Dear Mr. Cyriac Joseph,

Since our last conversation, I would record the particular episode I had encountered at BESCOM office, the local office. The scenario was about our flat on Cline road getting bills, each month with the owner's name as a/c holder of the meter. To complicate things, the apartment is not registered and repeated reminders to the so called president had no results. I remembered the R.T.I. session we had, and with the documents, went to the head office. The effect was magical. He phoned the division and instructed to change the meter name immediately. Mission accomplished, I am getting my bills in my name. I tried this small experiment and know the power of Article 19.

Intend using this avenue in several areas.
